marcasite in agate with a geode that penetrates to the back and there is a beautiful quartz in it that is seen protruding downwards.
This Marcasite agate is a very unique material that exhibits “chunks” of marcasite suspended in an agate matrix. The brilliant metallic marcasite shows up as speckled pieces in a hard agate background. It’s a bit messy to work with, but makes for a brilliant final piece.
The stone has a combination of bluish grey banded agate with some white and translucent segments that have a mass of granular metallic Pyrite. The light-reflecting pyrite gives this stone an alluring and shimmering look.
These earrings are made from Indonesian Marcasite stone, mined on the island of Sumatra. We cut the boulder into slabs and cut them into ear plugs in our workshop.
