Purple Chalcedony is one type of Chalcedony found in Indonesia. It crystallises in mass formations with other colours of Chalcedony and Opaline. Its colour pattern ranges from light lilac purple to dark and deep lavender purple. The associated Chalcedony that forms alongside it can be blue, grey, white, and brown. Most of this material is found formed in several types of altered volcanic rocks. The mineral is found in many parts of Indonesia, with the best quality coming from West Java Island.
Purple Chalcedony was originally discovered by farmers as they were clearing land in preparation for the planting season. As they began to plough and sow the fields, they extracted dark pieces of this Chalcedony variety. As they dug deeper, they found a huge deposit right under their feet! Since the initial discovery, other pockets have been found nearby, as well as scattered across various riverbeds in the region.
